Custom Concrete Patio and ColoradoScape Landscaping in Arvada

The Rodgers Project in Arvada was designed to create a more usable backyard while reducing maintenance and improving the overall flow of the property. FRSR combined a custom concrete patio, curved walkways, new steps, decorative rock, mulch beds, dry creek features, boulders, trees, shrubs, and low-water landscaping to give the yard a clean and finished appearance.

The main patio was poured directly off the rear of the home to create a practical outdoor living area with room for seating, dining, grilling, and entertaining. Its broad curved edge softens the hardscape and helps the patio transition naturally into the surrounding landscape.

Rather than using a basic rectangular slab, the patio was shaped around the home, deck, hot tub area, drainage paths, and existing grades. The finished concrete provides a durable, low-maintenance surface while still fitting the more natural style of the yard.

Matching concrete walkways connect the primary patio to the covered porch, side yard, steps, and upper portions of the property. These paths improve movement around the home and eliminate exposed dirt and uneven access areas.

A series of custom curved concrete steps was installed to manage the elevation changes between the patio and upper landscape areas. The rounded shape of the steps follows the curves used throughout the project and gives the transition a softer, more intentional appearance.

Decorative rock was installed across large portions of the yard to reduce maintenance and provide a consistent base around the home, walkways, planting beds, and landscape features. Different rock sizes and tones were used to create contrast and help define each area.

Dry creek beds were incorporated through the landscape using rounded river rock. These features add visual movement while also helping guide drainage through the property during rain and snowmelt.

Natural boulders were placed throughout the yard to add height, structure, and visual interest. Larger stones were used along the dry creek beds and planting areas, helping the landscape feel established and connected to Colorado’s natural surroundings.

Mulch planting beds provide contrast against the lighter decorative rock and create dedicated spaces for trees, shrubs, and perennials. A mix of evergreen and deciduous plant material adds year-round structure while allowing the landscape to gain more color and texture as it matures.

The completed Rodgers Project gives the homeowners a more functional outdoor living space with improved access, cleaner drainage, lower maintenance, and a balanced mix of concrete, rock, mulch, boulders, trees, and shrubs.
