Brighton Backyard with Stamped Concrete and a Custom Fire Pit

The Rounds Project in Brighton was designed to turn a large backyard into a finished outdoor living area that feels like a natural extension of the home. The completed space combines a substantial stamped concrete patio, a custom-built fire pit, new lawn areas, decorative rock, trees, and fencing into one clean and coordinated backyard design.

The main feature of the project is the expansive stamped concrete patio installed across the rear of the home. Rather than creating a small concrete pad disconnected from the house, the patio was designed to span the covered porch, outdoor seating area, fire pit area, and open portions of the backyard.

This larger layout gives the homeowners plenty of usable space for outdoor furniture, dining, grilling, entertaining, and relaxing around the fire. The concrete also provides a durable and low-maintenance surface that can handle Colorado’s changing temperatures and regular outdoor use.

Natural Stone-Style Stamped Concrete

The patio was finished with a natural stone-style stamped pattern and a rich earth-tone color that complements the home’s exterior siding, masonry veneer, roofline, and wood fencing. The darker accent tones within the concrete help define the stamped texture and give the finished surface more depth than standard broom-finished concrete.

Soft curves and rounded patio corners were incorporated into the design to keep the space from feeling overly rigid. These curved transitions help connect the large hardscape area to the surrounding sod and landscape while making the patio feel more natural within the backyard.

The stamped concrete continues beneath the home’s covered porch, creating one consistent surface across both the covered and uncovered outdoor areas. This gives the backyard a much more finished appearance and eliminates the disconnected look that can occur when multiple patio materials are used.

Integrated Concrete Steps and Raised Covered Patio

The home’s covered rear entry sits above the main patio elevation, so wide stamped concrete steps were built to create a comfortable transition between the house and backyard. The steps use the same color and stamped finish as the main patio, allowing the entire hardscape to read as one unified installation.

The broad step design provides easier access than a narrow staircase and creates a strong architectural transition from the covered porch to the open patio. The finished edges and vertical concrete faces were carefully detailed so the raised section looks intentional from every angle.

Custom Masonry Fire Pit

A custom circular fire pit was placed near the center of the outdoor living area, giving the patio a natural gathering point without taking away from the open layout. Its location allows seating to be arranged around the fire while maintaining room for additional furniture and movement throughout the patio.

The fire pit was constructed with a stone-style masonry veneer selected to coordinate with the stone accents on the home. A light-colored segmented concrete cap creates a finished seating-height edge and provides contrast against the darker stamped patio.

Decorative lava rock completes the interior of the fire feature. The combination of the masonry base, contrasting cap, and rock creates a fire pit that feels built into the overall landscape rather than added to the patio afterward.

New Sod and Finished Lawn Areas

New sod was installed around the stamped concrete to create a soft transition between the hardscape and the remainder of the backyard. The lawn provides open space for everyday use while balancing the size and darker color of the patio.

The curved lawn edge follows the shape of the concrete, creating a clean and natural connection between the two materials. This layout also keeps the lawn concentrated in practical areas instead of placing narrow strips of grass where they would be difficult to maintain.

Decorative Rock, Trees and Backyard Finishing

Decorative rock was installed around the patio edges, along portions of the home, and within the landscape areas near the fence. These rock borders reduce exposed soil, improve the finished appearance of the backyard, and help separate the lawn from the fence and hardscape.

Trees were incorporated along the property line to provide long-term structure, shade, and screening as the landscape matures. The open planting layout preserves the expansive views from the patio while still giving the backyard a more established and complete appearance.

A horizontal wood fence surrounds the property and adds warmth to the project. Its clean lines complement the architecture of the home while providing privacy and a defined backdrop for the lawn, trees, decorative rock, and stamped concrete.
