Erie Backyard ColoradoScape with Sod, Rock, Boulders & Planting Beds

The Howard Project in Erie was designed to create a clean, colorful backyard landscape with a strong mix of sod, rock, boulders, mulch, plantings, and a stamped concrete walkway. The finished layout gives the homeowner usable green space while still reducing maintenance through ColoradoScape-style landscape areas.

FRSR installed a curved sod area as the main open space in the backyard. The lawn gives the yard a soft green center while the surrounding rock, mulch, and planting beds help keep the overall landscape easier to maintain.

A river rock dry creek style border was added around the lawn and through the landscape to bring texture, movement, and a natural Colorado look to the yard. The larger river rock helps define the sod edge while tying together the planting beds and boulder areas.

Large boulders were placed throughout the landscape to add structure and elevation. These boulders help break up the rock areas, create focal points, and make the finished yard feel more custom than a basic rock-and-sod layout.

Mulch planting beds were added near the fence and patio areas to create warmer contrast against the rock and lawn. The beds include trees, shrubs, perennials, and seasonal color to soften the fence line and bring long-term interest to the space.

The project also included a stamped concrete walkway that connects the outdoor living area and gives the yard a more finished look. The stamped concrete adds detail and texture while creating a durable path through the landscape.
