Drift Project – Westminster ColoradoScape

Less lawn. More seasonal color. A front yard ready to grow into its next chapter.

From tired lawn to a water-wise front yard

The Drift project in Westminster replaced the existing front-yard lawn with a ColoradoScape landscape built around native shrubs and perennials, decorative rock, accent boulders and the established trees. The new layout brings planting across the yard while keeping the entry and existing driveway connected to the landscape.

12,000–15,000 gallons a year

Estimated annual water savings from this lawn conversion, based on FRSR’s project estimate. Actual savings depend on watering practices, weather and plant establishment.

A landscape built around the planting

New shrubs and perennials are spaced throughout the former lawn area, giving them room to fill in as they establish. The existing mature trees remain a major part of the front yard, with the new planting adding another layer of texture and seasonal interest beneath and around them.

These completion photos show the landscape at its starting point. We’re looking forward to next growing season, when the native shrubs and perennials begin to fill out and bring more color to the yard.

Rock, cobble and natural boulders

Decorative rock covers the converted lawn area, while rounded cobble creates a defined border along the street and driveway. Accent boulders break up the planting beds and add natural focal points throughout the front yard.

The combination gives the yard a finished appearance now, with space for the plants to become a larger part of the design over time.

Less grass to water and mow

Removing the front lawn reduces the area that needs regular mowing and lawn irrigation. The new plants still need watering and care, especially while establishing, but the finished landscape is planned around a more water-wise approach.

For homeowners considering a similar change, ColoradoScape landscaping offers a way to replace lawn with a combination of planting, rock and natural materials suited to the property.

One coordinated front-yard transformation

The Drift project brings the existing home, mature trees, new planting and landscape materials together in one front-yard design. It’s a practical change that reduces lawn maintenance and leaves plenty to look forward to as the planting matures.
