Complete Aurora Backyard with Stamped Concrete and Family-Friendly Landscaping

The Cross Project in Aurora transformed a large unfinished backyard into a practical, comfortable, and family-friendly outdoor space. The finished landscape combines a large stamped concrete patio, new sod, curved walkways, decorative rock, mulch beds, evergreen trees, boulders, and a dedicated play area into one coordinated backyard design.

The goal was to create a landscape that could handle everyday family use while still looking polished and established. Instead of filling the yard with one material, the design separates the property into distinct areas for outdoor entertaining, lawn activities, play, planting, and circulation.

The final layout keeps the center of the yard open and usable while placing the harder-working landscape elements around the perimeter. This gives the homeowners plenty of green space without sacrificing the patio, pathways, planting beds, or play area.

Large Stamped Concrete Patio

A generous stamped concrete patio was installed across the rear of the home to create the primary outdoor living area.

The patio provides ample space for outdoor furniture, grilling, dining, and entertaining while connecting directly to the covered rear portion of the house. Its broad footprint makes the patio feel like an extension of the indoor living area rather than a small isolated concrete pad.

The concrete was finished with a natural stone-style stamped pattern and a blended gray finish. The texture adds visual interest across the large surface while keeping the overall appearance neutral enough to coordinate with the exterior of the home and surrounding landscape.

A softly curved outer edge was incorporated where the patio meets the lawn. This keeps the large hardscape area from feeling too rigid and allows the concrete to transition naturally into the surrounding sod.

Dedicated Children's Play Area

A separate play area was incorporated into the landscape to create a defined place for children's activities without taking over the main lawn.

The play zone was framed with landscape timbers and filled with a soft loose material, creating a contained surface around the play equipment. Decorative Rock and Low-Maintenance Areas

The light-colored rock provides contrast against the green lawn, darker mulch, and gray stamped concrete. It also creates a clean base around the boulders, evergreens, and other landscape features.
