Custom Stamped Concrete Patio, Fire Pit and Seating Wall in Erie
The Castleman Project in Erie transformed a large unfinished backyard area into a comfortable and functional outdoor living space. FRSR designed and built an expansive stamped concrete patio with flowing curves, a custom gas fire pit, a matching curved seating wall, and a stamped concrete walkway connecting the backyard to the front of the property.
The primary patio extends across the back of the home and beneath the existing deck stairs, creating a generous surface for outdoor furniture, entertaining, dining, and everyday use. Rather than using a basic rectangular layout, the outer edge was shaped with broad curves that soften the patio and create a more natural transition into the surrounding yard.
A natural stone-style stamped pattern was selected to give the concrete texture and visual character. The darker integral color and contrasting detail bring depth to the surface while complementing the exterior colors of the home, the wood fencing, and the stone used throughout the fire pit and seating wall.
The concrete was carefully laid out around the home, windows, deck supports, stairs, gates, and property access points. Control joints were placed throughout the larger patio area to manage movement while keeping the finished layout clean and organized.
The main gathering area is centered around a custom round gas fire pit. The fire pit was constructed with stone veneer and finished with a light-colored concrete cap. Its circular design creates a natural focal point within the large patio and gives the homeowners a dedicated area for relaxing and gathering outside.
A curved seating wall was built behind the fire pit using matching stone veneer and cap material. The wall follows the shape of the fire pit and patio edge, providing permanent seating without requiring additional chairs throughout the space.
The relationship between the fire pit and seating wall was carefully planned to provide comfortable spacing and clear movement around the gathering area. The matching materials tie the two structures together and give the patio a finished, custom-built appearance.
The stamped concrete continues through the side yard to form a durable walkway between the backyard and front gate. This provides a clean route around the home while eliminating the mud, uneven ground, and maintenance that often come with narrow side-yard access areas.
Decorative rock was installed along the foundation, fence lines, and edges of the walkway. The rock improves drainage, reduces exposed soil, and creates a crisp border between the stamped concrete and the surrounding property.
The completed Castleman Project gives the homeowners a large, cohesive outdoor living area with plenty of room for entertaining. The combination of stamped concrete, curved hardscape, custom masonry, permanent seating, and fire creates a backyard that is both highly functional and visually impressive.
