Multi-Level Stamped Concrete Patio and Sunken Fire Pit in Erie

The Anderson Project in Erie was designed to create a large, highly usable outdoor living space with multiple elevations and clearly defined areas for relaxing, entertaining, and gathering around the fire. FRSR used stamped concrete, custom masonry, retaining walls, steps, landscape improvements, and lawn installation to create a finished property from front to back.

The backyard features an expansive stamped concrete patio extending across the rear of the home. The patio’s natural stone-style texture and blended earth-tone coloring complement the exterior of the house while giving the surface a more custom appearance than standard gray concrete.

Because the property includes significant grade changes, the patio was designed with multiple elevations. Custom stamped concrete steps connect the upper patio to a lower gathering area, creating an intentional transition between the different outdoor spaces.

The lower patio centers around a rectangular masonry fire pit finished with coordinating stone veneer and a contrasting cap. Decorative lava rock completes the center of the fire feature and provides a clean, finished appearance.

Surrounding the lower fire pit area, FRSR constructed custom walls that help retain the upper grade while also creating privacy and definition around the gathering space. Stone-veneer columns and cap details were used throughout the design to coordinate with the fire pit and the home’s exterior stonework.

The finished layout provides plenty of room for outdoor furniture, a hot tub, dining, and larger gatherings. By separating the upper patio from the lower fire pit area, the homeowners gained several functional zones without making the backyard feel divided or disconnected.

The front yard was also completed as part of the overall project. FRSR installed a modern walkway using long rectangular concrete steppers surrounded by decorative rock. New planting areas were incorporated along both sides of the walkway to soften the hardscape and create a welcoming path from the sidewalk to the front entrance.

New sod, trees, shrubs, decorative rock, and clean landscape edging completed the front-yard transformation. The result is a polished, cohesive property with a strong street presence and a backyard built for outdoor living.
