Brighton Backyard with Artificial Turf, Stamped Concrete and ColoradoScape Landscaping

The Brown Project in Brighton was designed to create a comfortable, low-maintenance backyard that still feels natural, colorful, and inviting. FRSR combined artificial turf, stamped concrete, decorative rock, mulch beds, boulders, trees, shrubs, and ornamental plantings to give the homeowners a finished outdoor space they could enjoy without the upkeep of a traditional lawn.

Artificial turf was installed through the main gathering area to provide a clean, green surface throughout the year. The turf creates a practical place for outdoor furniture, relaxing, and everyday use while eliminating mowing, muddy areas, dead patches, and much of the water use associated with natural grass.

A custom stamped concrete patio was installed directly off the covered porch, creating a durable outdoor seating and entertaining area. The natural stone-style pattern and curved edges soften the hardscape and help the patio blend into the surrounding landscape rather than feeling like a simple square concrete pad.

The patio and turf were carefully shaped together to create a smooth transition between the two primary outdoor living surfaces. This layout gives the homeowners the flexibility to place furniture on the patio while keeping the turf open for additional seating, play, or everyday backyard use.

Around the perimeter, FRSR created a ColoradoScape landscape using a mix of decorative rock and dark mulch planting beds. The contrast between the materials adds depth and visual interest while helping define the different planting areas throughout the yard.

Large accent boulders were placed throughout the landscape to create structure and give the newer backyard a more established appearance. The boulders also help connect the decorative rock, mulch beds, turf, and patio into one cohesive design.

Evergreen trees were installed near the neighboring property to provide vertical interest and future screening. Additional trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, and flowering plants were incorporated throughout the beds to add seasonal color, texture, and movement as the landscape matures.

Decorative cobble and river rock were used to create flowing transitions between the planting beds and turf. These rock areas improve drainage, reduce exposed soil, and reinforce the low-maintenance ColoradoScape style of the project.

The completed Brown Project gives the homeowners a practical backyard with a year-round lawn appearance, a comfortable stamped concrete patio, attractive landscaping, and much less maintenance than a conventional grass yard.
