Arvada Backyard with Artificial Turf, Fire Pit and Outdoor Grill Station

The Vonn Project in Arvada was designed to turn a compact backyard into a comfortable and highly usable outdoor living space. By combining artificial turf, concrete, masonry, decorative rock, and a built-in grill station, FRSR created several distinct areas for relaxing, entertaining, and everyday use.

A custom concrete patio was installed directly off the existing covered porch, creating a clean transition from the home into the backyard. The patio includes broad concrete steps with integrated lighting, providing safe and convenient access between the covered porch and the lower outdoor living area.

The centerpiece of the patio is a custom-built fire pit finished with natural-looking stone veneer and a contrasting cap. A curved masonry seating wall was constructed beside the fire pit, adding permanent seating while helping define the gathering area.

A built-in outdoor grill station was also incorporated into the design. The stone-faced structure complements the fire pit and seating wall while giving the homeowners a dedicated place for cooking and entertaining outdoors.

Artificial turf was installed throughout the main lawn area to create a soft, green surface without the mowing, watering, mud, and worn patches that can come with natural grass. The turf was carefully shaped around the patio and surrounding landscape to create smooth, natural-looking transitions throughout the yard.

Decorative rock was installed around the perimeter to reduce maintenance and provide a clean border around the turf and hardscape. Small shrubs and ornamental plantings were added along the fence line to soften the space and provide additional color and texture as the landscape matures.

The completed Vonn Project gives the homeowners a practical backyard with a comfortable fire pit area, outdoor cooking space, low-maintenance lawn, and multiple places to sit and enjoy the outdoors.
