Payne Project – Broomfield, CO ColoradoScape, Sod, Rock, Mulch & Plantings
Broomfield Landscape Project with Usable Lawn and Low-Maintenance Beds
The Payne Project in Broomfield was designed to create a clean, finished outdoor space with a small usable lawn area surrounded by low-maintenance landscape beds. The goal was to keep the yard functional while reducing the amount of traditional turf and creating a cleaner Colorado-ready look.
FRSR installed a defined sod area with smooth, curved edging to give the yard a soft natural shape. This creates an open green space while still allowing the rest of the yard to be finished with decorative rock, mulch, trees, shrubs, and ornamental grasses.
The decorative rock areas provide a clean, low-maintenance surface around the home and along the patio and side yard areas. These rock zones help reduce maintenance, improve drainage, and give the landscape a finished appearance.
Mulch planting beds were added along the fence line and around the property to create contrast against the rock and turf. These beds soften the fence line and provide space for shrubs, trees, and plantings to grow into the design over time.
The planting layout includes trees, shrubs, roses, and ornamental grasses to add color, texture, and seasonal interest without overcomplicating the maintenance. The mix of rock, mulch, and living plant material helps the yard feel finished while still being practical for a Broomfield home.
The finished Payne Project is a strong example of how sod, decorative rock, mulch beds, clean edging, and simple planting areas can work together to create a balanced landscape that looks good, functions well, and stays easier to maintain.
