WOOD DECKS
A well-crafted wooden deck not only enhances your lifestyle by providing richness and enjoyment to your daily life but also serves as a valuable long-term investment by boosting your home’s resale value. The success or failure of a deck hinges on two critical factors: the quality or grade of the decking material and its maintenance. Premium deck materials boast dimensional stability, shrinkage resistance, and often natural insect repellency.
When choosing high-quality lumber such as redwood or cedar, it’s important to consider the lumber’s grade. Heartwood, known for its tight grain and slow growth, offers rot resistance and can endure up to three decades. In contrast, the faster-growing, lighter-colored sapwood is less resistant to rot and wear. Although dense woods may be more challenging to cut and often require predrilling, their density contributes to greater durability against foot traffic and the elements. It is recommended that all wooden deck surfaces undergo treatment every two years to ensure they age gracefully.
COMPOSITE DECKING
Composite decking, sold under names like Trex, Fiberon, and TimberTech, combines wood fibers and plastic to create a durable material that withstands the elements, maintains its shape, and does not shrink or expand, ensuring long-term durability for homeowners. These environmentally friendly composites are an excellent alternative to traditional pressure-treated wood decks. Composite decking ages without deteriorating, stays dimensionally stable, avoids splintering, has no knotholes, resists rot, and requires no annual sealing. However, it does not have the same strength as wood and cannot span similar distances. The scarcity of plastic structural beams, which tend to yield a less sturdy deck, means pressure-treated wood is still preferred for deck support structures. At FRSR, our ground-level deck frames are constructed exclusively with pressure-treated lumber.
PERGOLAS
The idea of living space goes beyond the interior of your home. A well-designed pergola provides a peaceful retreat for morning coffee and an ideal spot for entertaining guests in the evening. Pergolas can be constructed from a variety of materials, including wood, composite, and metal, and offer several shading options. Whether you’re seeking a perfect spot for your morning coffee, midday shade for children and pets, or a serene area to relax after work, FRSR can create a pergola to suit every requirement.
ROOF COVERS
Adding a roof cover can transform your deck or patio into a permanent extension of your home, providing shelter and shade. By installing a ceiling fan, you can enhance the ambiance, creating a Southern veranda atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing with a rocking chair and a refreshing glass of lemonade during the summer months.
